"And the times of this ignorance God has winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent." Acts 17:30 It is time for the Church of Jesus Christ (Yeshua) to turn from her errors and turn back to the LORD - YEHOVAH - The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The TORAH in the
Psalms
For centuries,
Christians, believers in Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) have looked to the book of
Psalms for strength, comfort, encouragement and wisdom. Yet, at the same time, we have believed the
lie that God’s commandments, statutes, precepts and judgments are not for
today. They were somehow nailed to the
cross of Christ and don’t need to be followed by Christians, let alone
learned.
We sum all of
these up as “the Law”, but it equates to “the Word” of Almighty God. Would any of us really say we believe the
Word of God is done away with ? Didn’t Yeshua say, “Heaven and earth shall
pass away, but my word shall never pass away” ? (Matthew 24:35) Don’t we equate this all as the Word of God
? Yet, as stated above, most believers
want nothing to do with the “Law of Moses” or the commandments found in the
Torah (the 5 books of Moses).
This summary of
verses found in the Psalms is laid out to show just the opposite. We will see that the “Law” is equal to God’s
“commandments”, “precepts”, “judgments”, “statutes” and finally God’s
“Word”. The words are used
interchangeably throughout the Psalms to describe the only “word of God” that
existed at the time the Psalms were written, that being the Torah.
David and the
others psalmists wrote over and over how wonderful, wise, faithful, and lasting
God’s words are. Take a look at the list
and see for yourself. Then, you may want
to reconsider whether you need to read and learn the Torah.

Paul
teaching Torah to the Gentiles
Some young man was asking if there was any evidence
in scripture that Paul taught the Torah to Gentiles? He was sure there was NOT and meant it as a
question to “stump” the people who’s channel it was.
I thought about it, and this passage below came to
mind:
First let’s go to Corinth with Paul the
Apostle.
Acts 18:1 After these things Paul departed from Athens,
and came to Corinth;
Acts 18:4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded both
Jews and Greeks.
Acts 18:5 When Silas and Timothy had come from
Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews
that Jesus is the Christ. 6
But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to
them, "Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."
Acts 18:7 And he departed from there and
entered the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose
house was next door to the synagogue. 8 Then Crispus, the ruler of the
synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the
Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.
Acts 18:9 Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the
night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; 10
"for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have
many people in this city." 11 And he
continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Then I
remembered this passage from the Jerusalem council.
Acts 15:13 And after they had become silent, James
answered, saying, "Men and brethren, listen to me:
They were discussing
what the Gentile should be told to do to begin to keep God’s Ways; and came up
with four “main” points to focus on with them.
Acts 15:19 "Therefore I judge that we
should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20
"but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from
sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood.”
All of these
agree with the commandments in the Torah.
Then he went on to say that the Gentiles would get further instruction
as follows:
Acts 15:21 "For Moses has had throughout
many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the
synagogues every Sabbath." (NKJV)
Acts 15:21 For from early generations Moses has
had in every city those who preach him, for he is read every sabbath in the
synagogues." (RSV)
This is not
something to take lightly. What he is
saying is that in the areas where Paul was preaching, people who were searching
for God or coming to Him were going to the synagogues to learn.
Since we
know Paul later left the synagogues to focus just on the Gentiles, he had to
have a way to teach them.
Remember,
Paul was a highly educated and trained Pharisee. He would have known all about the teaching system
of the synagogue and would have used that.
Today, there
is a format for reading the Torah that is used in almost every Jewish synagogue
and Messianic or Hebrew Roots congregations. It is called the Torah Portions. Each Sabbath there are a few chapters from the
Torah to be read and taught about at congregation when you all come together.
In that way, James was saying they will have the teaching of the Torah in the
synagogue system so they will learn the rest of God’s ways through that.
If we had to
do the same thing in America today, I would pick a different FOUR big things to
have the new people focus on to begin with.
Based on our culture today, I would pick:
1. Keep the Sabbath – on Saturday.
2. Do not eat pork, shellfish or
anything found dead already (like road kill).
3. Do not commit adultery / fornication.
4. Do not follow the ways of the pagans
with their holidays and idol worship.
These are just
examples. If I knew there was a system
for reading the Torah that the new people would be learning in, this would
work.
Don’t get
me wrong, we NEED this to happen in
America today. The odds of people doing
it, are very slim.

What
did the Apostle Paul say about the Law?
Some will quote Galatians, Colossians or Romans – just
a verse or two, and leave. Goodbye!
Those of us who have the “testimony of Yeshua and
Keep the commandments of God” see things differently.
If you are wondering, that phrase I put in quotes
above is found twice in the Book of Revelation.
*Revelation
12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with
the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the
testimony of Jesus Christ.
*Revelation
14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the
commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.
Now, back to Paul.
Is anyone else shocked that most of the Christian world takes what they “believe”
Paul taught over anything God or Yeshua actually said?!! That is what is going on. I see it all the time. Somehow people have come to believe that the
Law was nailed to the cross, so we don’t have to keep the Sabbath, or God’s
Feast Days or eat clean foods or any of that.
Yet, no where will you find that God or Yeshua told
us to stop keeping His Law. Nowhere!
In fact, here
are a few passages with what Paul actually did say (or write):
Romans 13:8
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has
fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments,
"You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder,"
"You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness,"
"You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all
summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as
yourself." 10 Love does no harm to a
neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
1Corinthians 7:19
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing but keeping the
commandments of God is what matters.
Galatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "You
shall love your neighbor as yourself."
No question, though, Paul
had a great zeal for God, and then met Yeshua on the Damascus Road. Then he was changed. He literally saw the light and learned the
point of the Torah. It led us to Yeshua
but was never done away.
The Torah is the
instruction book for this life. It was
given to us so we could love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. That is the Way God wants us to walk. We can only find it in the written books of
Moses from Genesis to Deuteronomy.
Until you have read and
learned these books – after several years of studying – THEN you can tell me
what Paul meant in his letters.
Actually, you will be able to see it for yourself and you will be
amazed. God’s Law opens our eyes and
helps us understand the rest of the Book – all the way to the Revelation of Yeshua
the Messiah!
If you haven’t already
started this journey, get on with it. Grab your bible and start reading at the beginning.
Ask God to show you and teach you. Let His Holy Spirit guide you through the
pages. Don’t be in a hurry. This is the MOST IMPORTANT book you will ever
read. Period.
Believe me. You will never
regret it…
