Yeshua  never fell with the Cross

I have watched  several movies about the crucifixion of Yeshua over the years. In fact, I still love to watch one or more of them around Passover time.  These are the main ones I would watch in no particular order:

King of Kings

The Greatest Story Ever Told

Jesus of Nazareth

Ben Hur (one of my all-time favorites)

The Passion of the Christ

You can correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can remember, every one of these and other films, TV shows, etc. depict Yeshua falling at least a couple if not 3 times while carrying his cross up to Calvary.

I know the catholic Church has each time he fell as one of the “stations of the cross”.  These can be found depicted on the walls of most catholic churches (at least ones I’ve seen).

Well, one day, the thought occurred to me.  I don’t think I can remember reading in the Bible any time when he actually fell.  I was a bit shocked by the idea but decided to look it up.

I went through all four gospels and read the passages about him carrying the cross out of Jerusalem.

Matthew 27:31 And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified. 32 Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross. 33 And when they had come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say, Place of a Skull, 34 they gave Him sour wine mingled with gall to drink. But when He had tasted it, He would not drink. 35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots."

Mark 15:20 And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. 21 Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross. 22 And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.

Luke 23:24 So Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested. 25 And he released to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will. 26 Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.

Luke 23:27 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. 28 But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 "For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!' 30 "Then they will begin 'to say to the mountains, "Fall on us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!"' 31 "For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"

Luke 23:32 There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.  33 And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

John 19:15 But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!" 16 Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So, they took Jesus and led Him away. 17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.

There you have it.  All four gospel accounts and not one mention of Yeshua falling at all.

John is the only disciple that we are told was actually present at the crucifixion.  That doesn’t mean he would have been able to follow along with the crowd closely.  It was probably chaotic, and he may have had to follow at quite a distance.  He most likely helped Yeshua’s mother get to the cross.  We know she was there and some of the other women.

We don’t know where Matthew, Mark or Luke got their information to write their accounts.  Either way, they would have pre-dated any later accounts that did not make it into the canon of scripture.

It seems very difficult to believe that these four accounts could have been compiled and not one of them mentioned even briefly if Yeshua fell or not.

I wonder if this isn’t one more attempt by the enemy to try to make Yeshua out as weak and frail – after the fact.  Keep in mind, Satan lost.  Yeshua defeated him and made it public – at least in the spiritual realm.

Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

So maybe the enemy, as he worked to weaken the gospel, and to water down the great salvation that Yeshua worked out, did this (among other things) to twist the facts and sow confusion.  I can’t prove this theory, but you decide for yourself.
Either way, you can see it isn't in the Bible anywhere...
